Second half goals from Sadio Mane and Mohammed Salah helped Liverpool to record a 2-0 win over Chelsea on Sunday in the Premier League as they move above City on the table.

Two goals in the second half from African sensations Mane and Salah did the damage to Chelsea’s top four hopes.

With City winning earlier away at Crystal Palace, only a win could help Liverpool return to the top of the league.

Standing in Liverpool’s way was a Chelsea side in a top four race.

Sarri opted to start Eden Hazard as false nine and it was the Belgian that missed Chelsea’s best chances in the match.

The victory, Liverpool’s first against Chelsea at Anfield in seven Premier League meetings, restored a two-point lead at the top for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Liverpool are on 85 points, City on 83.

Salah volleyed the earliest chance straight at Kepa Arrizabalaga and the Egyptian’s reaction shows he knows he could have done a lot better.

Eden Hazard and Willian issued warnings on the counter before Mane, provider of Salah’s opportunity, shot wide from the Egypt star’s cut-back.

Mane arrived at the far post to nod in Jordan Henderson’s cute cross in the 51st minute and, moments later, Salah cut inside and sent home a worldie to give Klopp’s side all three points.

Liverpool take a 2-0 first-leg advantage to Porto for the reverse encounter of their Champions League quarter-final tie on Wednesday, which comes before Sunday’s clash against  Cardiff City.

Chelsea can look forward to consecutive home matches, against Slavia Prague in the Europe League on Thursday and Burnley the following Monday.
