Head Coach of the German National team Joachim Low says he has been unable to communicate with Arsenal Playmaker Mesut Ozil since the German announced his retirement from National team duties.
Ozil and Low won the World Cup with Germany together in 2014.
Germany suffered a devastating group stage exit at the 2018 World Cup in Russia with Mesut Ozil getting criticism from every angle starting from when he took a picture with Turkey President Erdogan.
Speaking to journalists about the Mesut Ozil issue, Joachim Low said:
His agent called me and told me that Mesut would announce his retirement”.
“The player himself did not call me. Ozil has chosen a different path and until this moment, he has not called me- Joachim Low
Joachim Low also accepted that he as Manager of the German National team underestimated the situation:
“I have tried by phone and text message but I have not been able to reach him. I have to accept that, I probably underestimated the whole situation”
“The topic has taken a lot of energy, but it should not be an alibi. The statement from Ozil was perhaps a bit hasty. There has never an approach of racism in our team”- Joachim Low.
