Tottenham Hotspurs Manager, Mauricio Pochettino admits the stress for the UEFA Champions League final is more than ever, as over one billion people would be watching.
Pochettino leads Spurs to their first ever UEFA Champions League final against Liverpool and the Argentine faced the media to talk on a wide range of issues.
On his side’s preparations,
“We started to prepare for the final after Everton, not after Ajax as we wanted to make sure we finished in the top four”
“The journey was unbelievable, it was totally new, but we enjoyed it together. The atmosphere, focus, concentration was a pleasure to manage. I’m so proud of this group of players”
“They’ve accepted everything. We’re prepared to run, to compete, to enjoy. We know each other really well and we have the ambition to win. In the final, it’s about winning”
“We want to write history and we know what we need to do.”
“Of course you need to prepare differently, you can’t prepare for a friendly like a final. Players have different mental levels and concentration”
“Tomorrow, the most important thing is to be ready. Under stress, you act on autopilot. When there’s one billion watching you, that stress is more than ever“- Pochettino
“They need to play with freedom, like how you play when you’re a child, seven or eight. The key is not to think about all those watching you but to all work together”- Pochettino
“Liverpool’s a great team with a lot of quality, they’ll be ready to fight but I hope Tottenham will be the best”
Starting 11 not decided;
“I haven’t decided the team yet. I don’t know who will play we’ll decide after our final training session”- Pochettino
Jurgen is a very successful manager. I admire him a lot, he’s great. He’s always happy, optimistic, a very good example for others in being spontaneous and natural, and he’s been unlucky”
“The most difficult thing is getting to the final. There are a lot of circumstances you can’t control. As a manager, you need to trust that the universe goes bright and makes you lift the trophy
It’s not easy to make decisions for tomorrow. We have all the information, we know every single detail and we’ll make the right decision to win”
“It’s so painful when this kind of game arrives and you can only use 11 players, it’s the most painful situation”- Mauricio Pochettino
The Manager also refused to disclose to press men whether fit again Harry Kane will start against Liverpool.
