Borussia Dortmund edged past Hertha Berlin in a thrilling 3-2 win at the Olympadion Stadion Saturday evening.

Salomon Kalou scored the first goal of the match from close range in the fourth minute as he reacted swiftly to poke home the ball after Dortmund’s keeper Roman Burki dropped the ball, after a fierce shot.

Thomas Delaney equalised for Dortmund whose deflected shot saw the ball bounce beyond the reach of goalkeeper Rune Jarstein 10 minutes later.

Kalou then restored his team’s lead from the penalty spot in the 35th minute.

Dortmund rallied to get a second goal through Axel Zagadou two minutes into the second half.

Kalou could not wrap his left foot round the ball and grab his hat trick after the ball hit the frame of the post in the 62nd minute.

Jadon Sancho missed a chance to put Dortmund up as he scuffed a shot from the edge of the Hertha box moments after the guests were denied what seemed like a legitimate penalty.

Christian Pulisic bound for Chelsea next season got the better of his marker soon afterwards but his low shot on the turn went agonisingly off target.

German youth international with Nigerian blood Jordan Toruningha got his marching order for a second yellow card five minutes to fulltime.

Dortmund’s captain Marco Reus scored the third goal off a Jardon Sancho assist but Hertha were further decimated as skipper Vedad Ibisevic was handed a red card for violent conduct, throwing the ball at the head of the opponents’ keeper.

In the other games played earlier on Saturday, Augsburg beat Hamburg 3-1, Schalke defeated 1-0 by RB Leipzig and Wolfsburg thumped Düsseldorf 5-2. It ended in a 1-1 draw between Stuttgart and Hoffeinham.
