Borussia Dortmund defeated Bayern Munich 2-0 through goals from Paco Alcacer and Jadon Sancho to lift the German Super Cup 2019 trophy.

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Nuer tipped over the bar Marco Reus’ first minute shot from close range which could have culminated in the game’s opening goal for Dortmund.

Bayern were caught napping defensively in the 14th minute when Jerome Boateng’s misplaced pass was intercepted but Paco Alcacer’s cheeky effort hit the foot of the left post and rolled out for goal kick with relief for the chasing David Alba.

Nuer’s 19th minute instinctive footed save from Paulo Guerrero denied the more attacking Dortmund.

Bayern crested their own fair chances but it was only Kingsley Coman’s 23rd minute that came close to causing any havoc albeit Marwin Hitz in goal for Dortmund blocked the ball with his chest.

There was an injury scare for Alaba, the Austrian international with Nigerian heritage after an aerial duel, but he was back in action after some medical attention.

Dortmund went ahead in the 48th minute through Paco Alcacer who finished a good assist laid by Jadon Sancho who raced away with the ball after Thiago Alcatanra gave away possession dribbled past three defenders with some nutmegs before finding the scorer.

Bayern twice attempted to restore parity but it was Dortmund who extended their lead in the 69th minute through Sancho from a blistering counter attack.

Lucien Favre and his Dortmund players held on to their 2-0 lead to the end despite late attempts by the Bavarians.
