The news that Premier League side Everton are in talks with French outfit Monaco about selling Super Eagles of Nigeria forward Henry Onyekuru broke on Wednesday and now fans of the Liverpool based club have taken to social media to express their views on the transfer development.
Onyekuru was in action for only 12 minutes in Nigeria’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations campaign in Egypt and has not played the required 75% of Nigeria’s matches to qualify him for a work permit in England.
The 22-year-old who got married over the weekend to his heartthrob in Benin City, Edo state, has not played a single game for the Merseysiders since his £7million acquisition.
Brazilian pair Bernard and Richarlison are almost guaranteed to have first team chances ahead of Onyekuru who could have still contended with the incoming Juventus striker Moise Kean.
Most of the comments seem to welcome a departure from the club for Onyekuru but a certain Aide Dews spared a thought for the Nigerian by suggesting that the club could be losing a gem.
Here are some of the comments made Everton fans on Onyekuru’s likely sale to AS Monaco.
“Can’t see him ever putting on an Everton shirt anyway so just sell him.”
“Any profits welcome on this player.”
“Good luck to him. Let’s get a few quid for him.”
“Shame we never got to see him, there is a player in there imo. Good luck to him.”
“Swap him for Henrichs and that’s the RB sorted.”
“Makes sense I suppose get money in add a player who can actually join the club.”
“We should be asking at least 15m for him, he’s done well the last couple of seasons.”
Everton will begin their Premier League campaign with a clash against Crystal Palace on Saturday, August 10 at Palace’s Selhurst Park from 3pm Nigerian time.
