FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup: Rasheedat Ajibade Pip Haiti In Second Group Game
Nigeria’s Super Falconets on Thursday defeated Haiti 1-0 in their second Group D match of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup at the Stade De Marville in France.
Rasheedat Ajibade scored Nigeria’s only goal from the penalty spot.
The Falconets started on a nervy note with a yellow card handed to Gift Monday within the first five minutes. The Nigerians also lost possessions a couple of times.
FC Robo star Ajibade got the Falconets ahead through a 36th minute penalty after Anam Imoh was fouled in the box.
Haiti went close to equalising but a shot from the edge of the box by Helen Moundesir hit the bar.
Ajibade flashed her shot wide just before the half time break after going past the Haiti keeper.
With three minutes left to play Aishat Bello attempted an audacious chip over the Haiti keeper who did just enough to have a finger on the ball and stop it from being Nigeria’s second goal.
The Falconets will head into Monday’s last group game against China needing a win to stand a chance of qualifying to the knockout stages following the 2-0 defeat of the Chinese side to Germany also on Thursday.
