Inter Milan’s 3-0 thrashing of Lazio could mean more than just 3 points

The Nerazzuri were in cruise control on Monday night when they took apart Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico thanks to a Mauro Icardi brace either side of a beautiful daisy-cutter from Marcelo Brozovic.

The impressive win sees Inter continue their recent dominance over Lazio as they haven't lost a Serie A game to the capital club since May 2016.

The game was in many ways a represantation of what we've witnessed so far and can expect to see more times this season.

Silent Killer

Once again we witness another big game in which Icardi didn't really feature but still ultimately decided the outcome of the match through his goalscoring prowess.

Similar to the Derby De La Madonina against AC Milan and the Champions league game against Tottenham just to name a few examples, Mauro Icardi once again becomes the main man in a game he didn't really play well in, making him the ultimate silent killer.

Disappearing act

In a game of that magnitude, Lazio manager, Simone Inzaghi must have been looking up to his two biggest stars to conjure up some magic and rescue the team from humiliation on their own patch, but as is so often the case in the biggest games, they were once again nowhere to be found.

Ciro Immobile and Sergei Milinkovic-Savic both ghosted on the night and it's not the first time it's happened as well, especially with the latter.

If Lazio are going to mount a serious challenge for a Champions league spot this season like they did the last, Simone Inzaghi's men must be ready to turn up on the grandest of stages, especially Immobile and Sergei.

Title Contenders or Pretenders?

Of the many teams that yearly plot to knock Juve of the top of the Serie A tree, one has to admit that Inter Milan look menacing but don't get carried away yet Nerazzuri fans…we've seen this before.

Last season Spaletti's men looked as though they were genuine contenders especially after going unbeaten for almost the entire first half of the season only to suffer a terrible dip in form starting from January and only barely managing to snatch the last champions league spot from Lazio.

Whether or not this season will be different from the last still remains to be seen though and they do have a long way to go as they're tied on 22 points with Napoli in 2nd place 6 points behind the dominant Juventus.
