Arsenal and Nigeria forward Alex Iwobi has revealed in the latest edition of Four Four Magazine, August 2019 edition titled ’23 Reasons To Still Be A Gooner’ that former Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta and midfielder Jack Wilshere made him a better player at the north London club.

Iwobi who is in Nigeria’s squad campaigning at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations opened up to FourFourTwo on players that influenced his development.

“I’ve always like to laugh and joke but back then I maybe took it a bit too far,” the Nigeria international told Four Four Two in its August 2019 issue.

“Mikel told me to stay focused on football. Someone like him saying that makes you take notice, so I did.”

Iwobi also spoke glowingly about Wilshere whom he idolised while he was an U-21 player.

“Growing up, I idolised Jack Wilshere. He was a great technical player. Back in the day, we’d always try to get advice from him.”

On what will be his target for next season, Iwobi enthused:

“I was on the bench for the last trophy we won (the FA Cup in 2017), so I got a taste of it, but it’s something I want to experience more.”

Iwobi could play some part in the Super Eagles game against Cameroon in Saturday evening’s Round of 16 clash at the Alexandria stadium.
