Another season of the most entertaining league in the world is almost upon us and Footytool brings you a peak into the future. Welcome to the first of our 3-part preview of the Italian Serie A 2019/20 season.
We work our way from the bottom up by taking a calculated guess at the teams most likely to be involved in a relegation battle during the course of the season, and what better place to start than the newly promoted teams.
Brescia, Lecce and Hellas Verona made their way back to the big-time but if history is anything to go by, then they are the favorites for instant relegation.
Two of the three promoted teams from last season, Empoli and Frosinone both made and instant return to the Serie B and it might just be a case of de Javú.
Brescia were Serie B champions last season and many believe they have the best chance of defying the odds and staying up amongst the three.
Their two key assets include last season’s top-scorer, Alfredo Donnaruma who found the net 25 times and midlfield genius, Sandro Tonali who has been attracting the interest of Europe’s elite clubs.
A few of the teams that managed to stay up after a relegation scrap last season, SPAL, Genoa, Cagliari all appear set for another struggle this season.
Fiorentina surprisingly were almost relegated last season as a consequence of some poor results but La Viola are too good to be involved in yet another relegation scrap this season.
Parma started last season on fire but ended up finishing just 3 points above the relegation places after a disappointing second half of the season, which means they can’t be exempted from a relegation battle this year.
Football has proven to be unpredictable but it is very likely that 3 of the 7 teams listed above will be relegated to the Serie B next season.
