Stat attack: key stats for Poland vs Nigeria

This is the first meeting between these two sides, and it could provide a timely glimpse of what to expect from them this summer.

Poland won all but two of their World Cup qualification games but are yet to taste victory in any of their last two friendlies, losing one and drawing one.

The defeat to Mexico (0-1) was the first time Poland have lost at home since June 2016.

Given that there are no points at stake, it is expected that the early stages will be a cagey affair.

Despite this, the fact that six of Poland’s last eight games have produced over 2.5 goals is hard to ignore.

Nigeria have significant momentum from their 4-2 win against future World Cup group stage opponents Argentina in their last International fixture.

The Super Eagles have lost only one of their last 11 away fixtures. Sadly for them, it was their most recent one – a 4-0 thumping at the hands of Morocco.

Interestingly, Nigeria’s assistant coach Salisu Yusuf has not ruled out the inclusion of home-based Nigerian players in the final World Cup squad, saying:

“I want to believe he (technical advisor Gernot Rohr) has seen so much in them and ready to encourage them as well.”

Players to watch:
Without doubt, much of the limelight will be on Poland’s freescoring goal machine Robert Lewandowski who has scored five goals in his last three games for his country.

Victor Moses was the top scorer for Nigeria in qualification.

Meanwhile, fellow Premier League star Wilfried Ndidi has the most tackles in Europe’s top five leagues this season.

Stat attack:
Nigeria’s last visit to Europe yielded a 3-1 victory over Luxembourg.

Ahead of this friendly, Poland sit sixth in the FIFA rankings. Nigeria, meanwhile, are way down in 52nd.
