Goals from Samuel Chukwueze and William Troost Ekong helped Nigeria secure a 2-1 win over South Africa at the ongoing #TotalAFCON2019
Coach Gernot Rohr brought in Jamiu Colins and Samuel Chukwueze to the Super Eagles line up making some changes to the starting line up against Cameroon
It was the 20 year old Villarreal forward, Samuel Chukwueze that gave Nigeria the lead in the 27th minute bundling home after good work from Alex Iwobi, sending goalkeeper Rowen Williams to the wrong direction.
Etebo hit a free kick that hit the post few minutes into the second half as Nigeria dominated but failed to add to their first half goal.
VAR which was introduced at the Quarter final stage of the competition played its part in South Africa’s Equalizer.
Zungu headed home from an offside position although video checkes showed that the cross hit Odion Ighalo so the offside was ruled out and goal counted.
Super Eagles however grabbed a late winner, defender Williams Troost Ekong bundled in from a Moses Simon Free kick with two minutes to go to help Nigeria secure a spot in the Semi final as Rohr’s men awaits Algeria or Ivory Coast.
