Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane on Friday afternoon explained why Real Madrid sanctioned a season long loan move for midfielder Dani Ceballos to Premier League side Arsenal.
Ceballos will return to his parent club in the 2020/2021 season with some reports in the Spanish media even suggesting that the Spain U-21 star urged his club not to include an option to buy in the loan deal.
The Spaniard originally moved to the Bernabeu from Real Betis in the summer of 2017, with Los Merengues having beaten off competition from Barcelona.
The gifted midfield gem had only four La Liga starts in his first season.
Real Madrid head coach was quick to shoot down any insinuations that he had issues with the player and reiterated that the need to have more playing time warranted the loan.
“No, it’s not that I didn’t get on with Ceballos. I think Dani needed to play a lot because he’s an important player.”
“It’s true that at Madrid he has not had enough minutes, it’s just about that.
“There are a lot of players here, a lot of competition. I wish him to play many games and do well,’ Zidane told the media.
The 2019/2020 Spanish La Liga season starts on Friday, 16 August 2019.
